Devan Mormont

Tall and lean, Devan is the picture of a young squire of noble birth. His dark brown hair always seems tousled and he watches the world with curious eyes that seem to change from hazel to green depending on the light.

Devan is a nephew of Jorah Mormont, and as such he bears the shame that his uncle brought upon his house. Several years ago, Devan was sent to squire for Lord Seton Locke, in part to help mend the wounds that Jorah’s betrayal left. He was raised alongside Banon Locke, and now, with Lord Seton’s passing, he now serves as the new lord’s squire. Devan feels a close kinship with Banon and his household, as they are more a family to him than his own blood kin. At 15 years of age, he looks up to Banon as an older brother of sorts. He still retains a deep knowledge of his birth family, but truly dreams of the day when he becomes a knight in Banon’s service. To Devan, Lasham is as much his uncle and Red as much his brother as they are to Banon – and he will protect them all, as is his solemn duty. Maester Meldrik has taught Devan alongside Banon, as Devan’s heritage demands. Though his thoughts were nearly always somewhere else, Devan has gleaned some bit of knowledge from Meldrik, and this has not gone unnoticed. There is a very typical relationship between them .. that of the student dreaming of being outside practicing some knightly deeds and the teacher trying to recapture his attention. Yet Meldrik has seen Devan’s potential, and pushes his young student to make the most of it for their home and family. Devan has seen quite a bit during his time with House Locke. Recently, they attended a tournament at King’s Landing. It seems that Orton Lugus has been playing House Dennet against House Locke, perhaps with the knowledge of Iris Dennet (the daughter of Alfric Dennet, Lord of House Dennet). Not going into detail here, Devan has had a serious change of mind as to how the world works. He is willing to make certain sacrifices to save House Locke and House Mormont. He looks forward to the future with a wary eye.
